What is

SOMATIC

Simply put, somatic's is understanding the signals the body is sending to the mind. When we dive into somatic work we are taking a look at how emotions, feelings, reactions, triggers, and so many more 'mental states' present in a physical form. Somatics assists in discovering how to translate sensations within the body to understand the current mental state. Somatic therapy takes this to a deeper level, helping to sit with these feeling states within the body, identify what emotion the body is trying to say, and then release those emotions in the body through movement, breathwork, awareness, sitting with body discomfort, and other mind-body integration practices.

Working with the

Mind-Body Connection

Working on healing through somatics is an individual process and will look different to each person. We explore the body and its sensations, messages, and signs to take a different approach to the healing process. The somatic therapist is there as a guide for you, they are there to provide a safe space to explore what happens within the body during uncomfortable situations, feeling states, triggers, impulses, and other subconscious mental and physical responses. A somatic therapy session will involve learning to listen to the body, it can involve movement, it may involve discussion or quite reflection. Everything is tailored to the individual, nothing is a one-size-fits all approach.

Each person's needs and place in healing is unique.

This is a slow process of exploring the body's reactions in order to giving awareness of the body's response and eventually control of unconscious reactions back to the individual through conscious response. The process of focusing on one bodily reaction can take multiple sessions to process how the body feels to understand what it is signaling to the mind.

The body holds what the mind cannot currently understand. What has not been processed, what has been ignored, and what is unknown. Somatic therapy gives a ground space for those signals to speak, for the body to explore, for the body to process, and the individual to release.

Somatic therapy also provides a place for the individual to learn how to reprogram the mind in order to change how the body reacts. It provides a space to explore how the subconscious sees situations and the immediate and unacknowledged reaction; to become aware of the reactions that occur and change those to slow and thoughtful responses.

About the Center

In-Body Connection is a space where people come to find healing outside of or parallel to traditional medical treatments and therapy practices. We focus on helping individuals discover their mind-body connection. We focus on understanding the body and its signals. We offer an integrative approach for those struggling with an array of mental, emotional, and physical issues and ailments. In-Body supports individual healing by providing a means to understand the psychosomatic space, the space where the body is speaking but the person cannot understand, or the person is speaking but not listening to the body's responses. So as you use talk therapy or holistic approaches it could be beneficial to consider a somatic viewpoint to your healing journey as well.

More and more people are looking for a healing space that does not immediately turn to medications or traditional talk therapy. While these are useful and necessary in some cases, it has become a band-aid solution. People are looking for a whole body approach to therapy, something outside the traditional western medicine practices. That is what In-Body Connection offers.

In-Body Connection is growing to become The In-Body Center. The goal is to grow their partnered practices in order to offer an array of alternative healing modalities including somatic and psychosomatic therapies, yoga therapy, and energy work among other options. Where the body, mind, and spirit are all considered when talking about healing. A place that can help people understand themselves so they can align with what their soul’s purpose is calling them to do. If you are interested in learning how to become partnered with the center, please reach out to inquire about partnership opportunities!

Meet the Founder

Tessa Moeller

Founder | Somatic Therapist

It is, above all, most important to me that those that I work with move to a place of understanding the messages their body is sending to them. Build awareness within each moment; to be able to be in their body at all times, to fully  feel their emotions and not suppress ‘negative’ emotions. To have a felt sense of living life, and that life isn’t just passing them by. To know that they lived each moment with full awareness of their choices, decisions, words, actions and to fully know themselves with complete agency.

Tessa has a degree in Sociology from Purdue University, her MBA from University of Indianapolis, graduated from the Awaken and Rise coaching programs with Julie Santiago, and is certified in Somatic Therapies through The Embody Lab. She continues her education through The Embody Lab programs with Dr. Scott Lyons and his team, as well as the National Institute for the Clinical Application of Behavioral Medicine.

FAQ

  • What is the cost of a therapy session?

Depending on the needs of a client as well as the length and structure of a session, cost can range from $75 - $200.

Package options will be available for those looking to make this a permanent part of their healing which discounts each session's price.

The first session will always be a no-charge session as the healer/s will get to know the peson, their background, get to know what the needs of the individual may be, and see if the work is a good fit for them.

This also gives the individual a chance to feel out the space and consider it as an option for their healing journey.

There is an option for a sliding scale if a financial hardship happens or someone is in need of a lower rate, but that would be discussed on an individual basis as long as the therapy is a good fit for the person.

There will also be group workshops available for a much lower rate of between $10-$50 per workshop session. Ocassionally free workshops will be held.

    Please inquire for specifics.

  • How long is a session?

Sessions are traditionally an hour but can range from 45 minutes to an hour and a half. There are also group sessions that will become available in the future focusing on different needs.

  • Will insurance cover this type of therapy?

Most traditional insurance will not cover the cost of this therapy as it fall into integrative, holistic medicine.

However, if you work with your doctor to get a 'prescrption' for this type of therapy then you can often use your HSA account to pay for such therapies.
